Thank you so much for writing about this, Bev. The whole thing was beyond appalling. Adding to how appalling, Oliver’s trans-identified male “fact-checker” wrote to WoLF in advance of the show to ask for comment. Here is WoLF’s report of the “fact-checker’s” request and WoLF’s response: https://womensliberationfront.org/news/last-week-tonight-contacts-wolf-seeking-comment-on-womens-sports Reem Alsalem was also contacted and sent a letter in response: https://x.com/UNSRVAW/status/1908442325107286108 So, Oliver and crew had plenty of good information and simply ignored all of it.

“Trans-identified ‘fact’ checker” explains a lot; thanks Susan. And thank you, Bev, for watching this shit show so I don’t have to! Still makes my blood boil just reading about it, though.

Really - so that nazi thing is STILL being used to denounce reality-observers? I really cannot understand how we got here but things are very, very ugly. And frightening. More people are going to be to step up and use their voices. Many more of us than are now.

Disgusting.

All in the name of “inclusion”. Except for the self-excluding girls & women, and the ones who get dropped in favour of the males, of course.

To frame this as a Republican vs Democrats issue is to fundamentally misunderstand the issue. The tone was set within the first few seconds as you say and it was his focus for the rest of the show.

John Oliver is the embodiment of the modern radical progressive caught in the trans cult - oozing condescension from every pore, dismissive of women’s and teenage girls’ concerns.

I noticed also that contradiction - the dumbass criticised Fox News for focusing on Stephanie Turner but dedicated a whole show to the topic.

Sometimes, I regret dropping the odd ‘women and men are physiologically distinct’ comment while I’m at work out of fear that I’ll be reprimanded and possibly fired.

I’ve also mentioned how debate and emotional resilience are necessary, and segued into how gender identity ideology is at odds with feminism and homosexuality. I work at a business that has a lot of ‘gay/queer-identifying’ people. It’s a miracle these topics haven’t already landed me in hot water. But on the other hand it may not be such a miracle; the people I’ve talked to about it have seemed stunned and surprised by my willingness to broach these subjects. And while they seem scared to continue discussing the topic (due to my poignant lack of trans affirmation), they also seem confused, as though they have never been presented with the possibility that a ‘gay’ person could oppose transgenderism.

Even if I stop short of saying I’m directly critical of gender ideology and its clear dependence on sexist stereotypes, I have made it clear that I am safe to speak to and open to further discussion outside of work.

Reading this made me feel proud to have done so, because I feel a responsibility to do it. I use my protected status as a homosexual and woman of color to ensure they can’t reflexively accuse me of homophobic or racist bigotry. Most of them have consumed so much propaganda like what John Oliver spews that they are afraid to challenge me based on my visible gender-nonconformity and immutable characteristics. If they only want to see the world in terms of class/identities, then that’s my shoe in.

I just have to tread carefully.

I suspect that even Oliver's biggest fans could see through his sophistry: the absurdity of his framing this as a left vs. right issue, when 4 out of 5 Americans agree that male athletes should not be competing in women's sports; and mocking Fox for doing a segment on the fencing fiasco and then delivering a 45-minute rant on this topic.
